This post is actually the first lesson of a Eating Raw For Life course I have available on the health benefits of the raw food diet.

Today were going to talk a little bit about the ins and outs of a raw food diet. By the end of this lesson you will have a better understanding of how eating raw food can help improve your quality of life.

The raw food diet has been around quite a while but when it comes to living a raw food lifestyle there is some confusion about the type of foods you can consume, if it’s ok to eat in prepared food, and how eating raw food benefits your health.

While lots of people start eating a raw food diet to lose weight there are many other benefits that should be considered.

Among them is the fact that eating natural unprocessed foods lets you live a longer and healthier life, with tons more energy and vitality.

In today’s busy, go, go, go… lifestyle plus having so many prepackaged ready to eat foods available, the simple truth is that most of people eat way too much in the way of processed food.

In fact, most of us don’t even stop to think about what we’re putting into our bodies. And we do it so often, we get accustomed to how sick processed foods makes us feel.

If you think processed foods don’t make you feel sick, take the 7 day challenge: stop eating all processed foods for 7 days, then eat a junk food meal and notice how you feel.

You’ll be amazed at just how much after eating a processed junk food meal that you feel a lot like you are getting the flu.

When it comes down to it, eating a raw food diet it simply means consuming food in its natural, unprocessed form.

There are many very good reasons why switching to a raw food diet plan is a good idea.
For example, processing and cooking food can take a large amounts of the nutritional of value away from the foods we eat.

I bet you can remember hearing someone telling you “don’t peel your carrots or potatoes”?

They were right! They told you this because they knew that most of the nutrients are in or just under the surface of the skin. This holds true for almost all of the fruits and vegetables that we consume, with a few exceptions. We will talk more about those later.

The Myth of Eating Raw

A common misconception is that consuming a raw food diet means that you can’t ever again eat anything cooked. The reality is different than the myth. Adopting a raw food diet plan doesn’t mean that at all. Everything you eat doesn’t have to be raw.

Eating Raw For Life simply means that at least 75% of the food that you eat should be unprocessed and uncooked.

The mainstay of a raw diet will consist of eating unprocessed, uncooked, organic, whole foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, dried fruits, seaweeds, etc.

A raw food diet means eating more like our healthier and fitter ancestors ate. They cooked very little, and certainly didn’t cook or process fruits and vegetables.

They ate them raw! When you stop to think about eating a raw food diet it only makes sense. It’s how our bodies were meant to consume and process food for nutrition and energy.

Besides, do you realize cooking your food not only removes a bunch of its nutritional value, but it also takes away a lot of the flavor?

That is a bad combo, being unhealthy and tasting worse!

There are many benefits to eating to a raw food diet, as we will discuss further in the other 11 lessons.

Just keep in mind when you begin eating a raw food diet you will notice:

  • You’ll feel better than you can ever remember
  • Your metabolism works better
  • You’ll rapidly lose excess fat
  • Enjoy the benefits of being able to sleep better
